Immigration:
Immigrants often flee their home countries in order to escape abuse, torture and physical hardship. In addition, the process of leaving one’s homeland is often psychically, emotionally, and financially taxing.
A psychological assessment may be necessary or prudent when dealing with the Canadian immigration authorities in the following circumstances:
- In order to demonstrate the validity of refugee claims;
- To assist in proving an individual’s genuine and immediate fears of returning to their home country;
- To show substantial ties and entrenchment in Canada and the psychological trauma that would result if the individual had to return to their home country; or
- To demonstrate that mental illness or trauma may be responsible for why there are logical flaws in immigration statements.
